#InCaseYouMissedIt: Kaduna CAN declares Northern CAN illegal, as body calls for Jonathan to fire National Security Adviser

by Lekan Olanrewaju

The Kaduna State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has described the formation of the Northern States’ CAN, describing as unconstitutional, as well as illegal.

The Kaduna chapter of the body stated that the constitution of the association allowed for the formation of six geo-political structures wich did not include the Northern CAN.

The state Chairman of the association, Reverend Samuel Kujiyat, on Sunday in Kaduna stated that the Northern CAN had been sabotaging its activities.

However, the PRO of the Northern chapter of the religious organisation retorted saying the chapter had been in existence since 1964 and could therefore not be illegal.

“The allegation is laughable” he said. “It is laughable for a son to declare his father and mother illegal. Kaduna State CAN is a son to Northern CAN. Northern CAN is not an illegal body, we have the certificates, and it is a constitutional body.”

”Elected officers in the 19 Northern states came together to have this forum.” he continued. “So, you cannot declare them illegal.”

This comes as the South-Eastern chapter of CAN has called on President Goodluck Jonathan to fire his National Security Adviser [NSA], General Andrew Azazi, describing him as a “decoration”. This, they said, is due to the fact thet he is not capable of handling the security threats currently facing the country.

“The National Security Adviser is a decoration.” said Reverend Emmanuel Chukwuma, Chairman ofthe South-East chapter of CAN. “He is incapable and should be removed immediately. He has not performed up to the required standard.”
