#InCaseYouMissedIt: Violence reported in Jos… again

by Isi Esene

According to Daily Times report, there were gunshots heard around Bukuru area of Jos, Plateau State.

All commercial activities in the area have been put on hold with shop owners scampering for safety.

Mr. Pam Ayuba, the spokesman for the governor of Plateau State said, “An Islamic school was the target of the attack”.

Ayuba confirmed the death of a young boy, but he denied he was a student of the Islamic school

Murtala Abdullahi, a resident of the neighbourhood where the attack took place described a lone attacker in red carrying what appeared as a “rocket launcher”.

He told AFP that,“The missile deflected and hit the wall of the school, killing the young boy”.

A military spokesman for Plateau, Captain Salihu Mustapha, confirmed the attack, saying that “someone opened fire on some innocents,” adding that “one of the bullets hit a child” who died.

Tension is high in Plateau state after the military said it planned to launch campaigns to root out gunmen suspected of belonging to a mainly Muslim group of herdsmen accused of killing more than 100 people earlier this month. The government has promised to stem the tide of violence but observers say it has so far failed.
