2015: INEC wants YOU!

by Emma Chidiogo

Ahead of the 2015 general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on Nigerians to corporate with the commission in order to ensure a successful electoral process.

The Commission’s Director Of Voter Registrar, Emmanuel Akem, while speaking at a forum titled “The Continuous Voter Registration And Permanent Voter Card Distribution”, organised by Partners For Electoral Reform (PER) on Monday in Abuja, said that it had put together good structures that will ease all kinds of difficulties that may arise in the process of electioneering in 2015.

“We have good structures that will address all kinds of challenges. We are partnering with both Government and non-Governmental agencies and the goal is to achieve success and deliver to Nigerians, credible election.

“Our structure has cut across all the geo-political zones of Nigeria. We are at the grass-root and are committed to our duties. We encourage citizens to collect their permanent voters card as that will aid INEC in discharging its duty”.

Akem also said that the essence of the permanent voters card is to help INEC authenticate the voters during the election in 2015.

The Registrar stressed that INEC frowns at those who disobey the guidelines of the electoral process and whoever is found guilty will be charged with criminal offence.

  1. ENGLISH….where do i register? Has anyone been on the INEC website??? it looks like it was built by a child in Nur school. What will it cost to provide useful info e.g: where are INEC local offices and where will i go if i need to register? If banks can put up ATM locator on their website, why is it difficult for INEC to do???
