Boko Haram: the fear trickles in to Lagos?

by Lekan Olanrewaju

Movie watchers, shoppers and general fun seekers may have had a bit of a surprise yesterday when an anti-bomb squad showed up at the Silverbird Galleria in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Silverbird Chief Security Officer however stressed that there was no cause for alarm, revealing that it was a monthly exercise. “We have to take precautionary measures.” he said. “We do monthly sweeps of the building.”

“It was security strategy carried out by every organisation and Silverbird is no exception.”

“We have security on ground 24 hours helping us with security, so it is not because of any threat,” he added.

Boko Haram was last week reported to have made a phone call to Africa Independent Television (AIT), threatening to carry out bombings in Lagos and Abuja if the president did not agree to a number of demands. The call, was however confirmed as fake.
