The academic staff of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) have threatened to stay off work for seven days starting from Monday.

According to reports, the Union is embarking on the seven-day warning strike to press on its demands to the federal government which it has for long ignored.

According to the public relations officer of the FCE Obudu chapter of COEASU, Aniashie Akpanke, “There is no going back on the union’s resolve to join their counterparts nationwide to press home several demands for which the federal government has been turning deaf ears to.”

‘The seven-day strike was ignited with a peaceful procession by all members of the union in black attire around the college and some major streets in Obudu town in defiance of the heavy downpour in the area at the time of the procession.”

The statement continued condemning the perceived double-standards by the government in its efforts at resolving the challenges facing the education sector.

Presenting the resolutions to the congress, the FCE Obudu chapter chairman of COEASU, Peter Betiang, noted that the union’s resolve to embark on a warning strike was “predicated on the government’s double standard and lack of genuine commitment to resolving the enormous problems bedevilling the education sector.”

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) are currently on a strike which has lasted about two months.
