Dr. Shamsudeen Usman, minister of National Planning

The Federal Government once again constituted another committee, this time to review the first National Implementation Plan. The committee is called the National Implementation Committee. The criticism against the multiple committees being set up by the FG is that in other countries, the civil service is utilised for the kind of responsibilities given to many of these committees.

The minister of National Planning, Shamsudeen Usman, who inaugurated the committee, said its purpose is to assess the attainment of the Federal Government’s Vision 2020. He also said that an expected outcome from the implementation plan is the provision of policies, programmes and projects to the private sector, federal and state governments.

According to him, the macroeconomic target of the first phase of the plan has a gross domestic target of $300 billion, per capita G.D.P of $2008 and a projected investment of N32 trillion.

The committee will be chaired by Moses Akpobasah. Speaking after his appointment was confirmed, Akpobaasah promised to provide Nigerians full details of the assessment of the plan.
