It’s finally HERE! BBM arrives for Android this Saturday, iOS on Sunday

BBM for Android and iOS

The long-awaited cross-platform versions of BlackBerry’s BBM will be available this weekend, according to the company. Android users will get first crack at it on Saturday, September 21st, while iOS users will be able to download it the following day. The company is just hitting its target of a summer launch, literally launching the apps with one day to spare.

BBM for iOS and Android will let users communicate with BlackBerry owners, and will offer features such as delivery, read, and typing notifications. It also lets users share files, images, and voice notes, and supports group chats with up to 30 people. BlackBerry says that its BBM Channels feature will be made available on iOS and Android in the near future.

The app will be available for Android 4.0 and up and iOS 6 and iOS 7. The mobile messaging market has become exceptionally crowded since BBM’s heyday of a few years ago, so it will be interesting to see if the company is able to bring users that have long ditched BlackBerry device back into its fold.
