‘It’s not true, there’s no winner yet’: Apparently, the Lagos guber primaries is still ongoing

by Isi Esene

Contrary to widespread media reports announcing a win for Akinwunmi Ambode, one of the leading candidates in the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial primaries currently going on at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos, YNaija can confirm that this is not true.

Sources within the Onikan Stadium venue of the primaries say voting is still ongoing with delegates from five local government areas in Lagos yet to cast their votes.

“I don’t know where they are getting all these reports from. This is 8pm, we are here… the voting is still going on and there is no problem.”

YNaija can exclusively gather that the voting is being carried out in a carnival-like atmosphere with loud music booming out of giant speakers in the stadium.

As widely reported, Lagos governor, Babatunde Fashola and his predecessor, Bola Tinubu are not present at the primaries.

This has raised more than a few eyebrows with many speculating that their absence may be as a result of a disagreement in the choice of gubernatorial aspirants – Tinubu is said to be in favour of Ambode while Fashola is believed to have given popular candidate, Olasupo Sashore his blessings.

“It is good that both of them are not here so that they won’t be accused of manipulating the process,” said one of the APC delegates.

The results of the primaries are expected to be announced late into the night.

Ambode, 51, is a public finance management expert is slugging it out with Tayo Ayinde, Olasupo Shasore, Leke Pitan, Femi Hamzat, Ganiyu Solomon, Tola Kasali, Adetokunbo Wahab and others.

We shall bring you updates as soon as we get them.
