It’s really about the money – and more, in today’s news roundup with Cheta Nwanze

money

Still on the issue of money, in Anambra to motivate the fire fighters, the state government pays each N10 as hazard allowance per duty call.

“It’s all about the money, and the damned thing is funny, you’ve got to have a car in this land of milk and honey” — Grandmaster Flash.

So the cat is finally out of the bag, and we have all been told what most of us have long suspected. All of the brouhaha in our land is all about money/kudi/owo/ego. Yesterday, some Gavels from the North of the Lugard-Niger-Benue Line insisted that the current #SoE be put to bed, or failing that, “just give them the money”. No word on the fact that in one of those states, flood victims were paid the grand sum of N200 or N240 ($1.26 or $1.51 in real money) out of N500 million released to the state by the Federal Government.

Was that amount good or bad? Let me bring out my calculator and do some of my admittedly poor math: based on the 2006 census, Adamawa has a population of 3,737,223. So if N500 millions is shared equally among the population, each person should get N133.79. At this stage I would want to congratulate the state government for its kind generosity towards its people.

That is if they don’t send a memo to the FG pointing out that the population of 3,737,223 was grossly understated. You see, seven years after, we have discovered that Bayelsa does not have 1,703,358 people. Get ready for some electoral rewiring…

Quote of the Day

“Nigeria has the world’s highest number of women who bleach their skin with 77 percent compared to Togo – 59 percent – and Senegal’s 27 percent” – The World Health Organisation tells us that Nigerian girls are world leaders in the use of, err, skin enhancers…

Bits and bobs

Still on the issue of money, in Anambra to motivate the fire fighters, the state government pays each N10 as hazard allowance per duty call. I’m sure it would be easier for them to let Onitsha Main Market burn. OMATA would not be impressed.

Lord CAR now has company as he is joined on the naughty step by Sokoto’s Aliyu Wamakko. Funny that he was not suspended when the took to the cane.

Nigeria, 2013: Damilola, 15, has dragged her father, Kanike, to an Ilorin Area Court for assault and battery.

Fresh from engaging the Junkun in festivities in Taraba state, Tiv warlords are engaged in more festivities, this time with the Agatu in Nasarawa state.

Well, for the Buhari supporters, hope his sense of judgment is not just faulty in my eyes. Any Nigerian that compares Boko Haram to Niger Delta Militants, does not deserve to be outside a maximum security Prison. Very disappointed at his comments. I want GoodLuck to rest and a better person take over. I’ve not seen 1 yet.

Sad…..really sad

Cheta, I disagree with you on CAN statement, I believe every right thing being would have said the same things about Buhari irrespective of the side of religious divide he belongs to. Buhari’s comments lately are un becoming of a statesman, he has desperately eroded the respect many of us accorded him in the past.

Chxta responds,

I like to think that Uncle Muhammadu’s statements were more than reckless, but as I pointed out, his right to drive rough with his mouth is protected by the Constitution, irresponsible though some or all of it may be.

My grouse yesterday is very simple: CAN more than any other person ought to open their bibles to the book of Matthew, chapter 7 and read verse 5. Amen.
