During his post-match press conference, Brazil coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari could barely find any positives from the semi final match against Germany as he described the 7-1 humiliation of his side as the worst day of his life.

The Brazilians were outclassed by a superior and more tactically disciplined German team who took them to the cleaners, ripped them apart and left them humiliated and completely distraught at the end of 90 minutes.

At the final whistle, it was confirmed; the world had just witnessed Brazil’s heaviest defeat in a competitive tournament. Scolari could only mutter somber words of apology to the millions of heartbroken Brazilian fans.

“I will be remembered as the coach to lose 7-1 but I knew that risk when I took the job,” said Scolari, a World Cup winner with Brazil in 2002. “The person who decided the line-up, the tactics, was me. It was my choice.”

He continued saying his “message for the Brazilian people is please excuse us for this performance. I’m sorry that we weren’t able to get to the final and we’re going to try to win the third-place match. We still have something to play for.

“We did our best – but we came up against a great German team. We couldn’t react to going behind. Not even the Germans can tell you how this happened – but it’s because of their skills and you have to respect that,” he said.

Thomas Muller started the onslaught scoring the first goal before Miroslav Klose, Sami Khedira and a Toni Kroos double made it five in the first half and Substitute Andre Schurrle added two more after the break before his Chelsea team-mate Oscar scored a late consolation.
