#RioOlympics: Japanese Dr. Katsuya Takasu sidelines NFF, hands $390,000 personally to Dream Team

After winning Nigeria’s only medal at Rio 2016, the heavens smiled on the Dream Team, as Japanese philanthropist Dr. Katsuya Takasu doled out the sum of $390,000 to the team – making good on his promose.

Takasu had on August 18, 2016 written a letter to the Nigerian Embassy in Japan stating his intent of watching the game live and also to give cheque donations to the team.

Takasu made good on his pledge by handing $190,000 to team captain Mikel Obi and $200,000 to team coach, Samson Siasia.

Nigeria won the bronze medal by beating Honduras 3-2.

The Dream Team faced a lot of challenges in the build up to winning bronze. They were stranded in Atlanta due to flight issues, and also threatened to boycott their quarter final match against Denmark.
