Neither of the parties gave reasons for the cancelletaion, it is believed that the move became nevessary as a result of the unfavourable security report about the proposed rally.

An advanced team of the president’s campaign delegation had already arrived in Damaturu for the rally before they were notified that it had been cancelled.

In some northern states, the campaign train of Jonathan, has been repeatedly attacked by political thugs and hoodlums, with his convoy being pelted with sachet water and stones in Bauchi.
