A former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has urged Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its bid to tackle security challenges in the country.

US warns of possible Boko Haram attack in Lagos

US diplomats in Nigeria on Friday claimed that “groups associated with terrorism” could be planning to attack a hotel in the financial capital, Lagos, in a travel note to citizens warning of security risks.

“As of late April, groups associated with terrorism allegedly planned to mount an unspecified attack against the Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria, near the city of Lagos,” the US Consulate General in Lagos said in an emailed advisory.  Read more….

How Borno Governor caused kidnap of Chibok schoolgirls – WAEC

The kidnap of over 250 schoolgirls in Chibok may not have occurred if the Borno State Government had heeded the advice of an examination body, fresh facts have emerged.

Aware of the poor security situation in Borno and worried about the safety of students, the West African Examination Council, WAEC, declined to conduct its Senior School Certificate Examination in unsafe parts of Borno, including Chibok. Read more….

Minister lauds Nigerians for donating blood to victims

Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu on Saturday in Abuja commended Nigerians for the voluntary blood donation to the Nyanya bomb blast victims.

According to reports, Chukwu, and the Minister of State for Health, Dr Khaliru Alhassan, visited the victims on admission in the FCT.

Chukwu also lauded the National Blood Transmission Services, for prompt response in giving blood to the victims, adding that other security personnel and the Red Cross Society did well too. Read more….

 Falana Rejects Appointment As Committee Member

On the ground that his membership would be at cross purposes with his earlier engagement in the struggle, Lagos lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Femi Falana (SAN) has rejected his appointment by President Goodluck Jonathan as a member of the presidential committee set up to embark on a fact-finding mission into the controversy surrounding the abduction of over 234 school girls in Chibok.

Besides, Falana, who noted in a statement to this effect that the military had, after all, announced last week that the girls would regain their freedom in a matter of days, said, “In the light of the foregoing I regret my inability to accept the appoinment to serve on the Committee to determine the number of the missing girls.” Read more…..
