President Elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari has accused the Administration of President Goodluck Jonathan of acting “too little too late” in its efforts to rescue over 200 girls abducted from the Government Girls’ Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State last year.
Buhari, who received his Certificate of Return from the INEC Headquarters on Tuesday afternoon, said this in an exclusive interview with CNN’s Christiane Amanpour.
While responding to questions on what he plans to do to defeat Boko Haram insurgents in the North east of Nigeria, Buhari said, “We will work in partnership with our neighbouring countries, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger. The Jonathan administration should have restricted the movements of terrorists and weapons across our borders.”
He talked about the continued abduction of the Chibok girls saying “Pres. Jonathan’s efforts at rescuing the girls came a little too late,” he said.
Buhari who is a retired military General expressed confidence in the ability of the Nigerian army to defeat Boko Haram saying their success is presently being hindered by institutional corruption.
According to him, “The performance [of the military] was, and is still, affected by corruption in the system.”
