A suspected member of a robbery gang was beaten to a state of coma by an angry mob in Delta State.

The gang specialized in snatching tricycles from their owners at gunpoint. However, a member of the gang was caught after he stole a tricycle at the  Ezenei area of Asaba, the Delta State capital.

It was gathered that, the armed gang had stolen a tricycle and were reportedly escaping with it when a mob gathered at the scene and overpowered one of them as they barricaded the road making it impossible for him to escape with the others.

Leadership reports:

The owner of the tricycle, LEADERSHIP gathered, reported the matter to the police but before the police could come to the scene, he had received thorough pummelling from the mob.

When contacted, spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, adding that he was beaten to a state of coma by angry mob while his accomplices escaped with the tricycle and their guns.

She said the police had spread its dragnet to arrest the others and recover the tricycle.
