Just bizarre: 72-year-old woman kept well-dressed corpse of her boyfriend as a companion

Charles Zigler
Sometime when a loved one dies it is impossible to let go. One woman said she kept the body of her companion in a chair at her home in southern Michigan, because she did not want to be alone.

Linda Chase, 72, said she kept the remains of Charles Zigler clean and dressed and spoke with the body while watching TV.

“Not that I’m heartless or anything like that but I did not want to be alone. He was the only man who was always kind to me,” said Chase, according to reports in the news media. Jackson police discovered the body in a chair in the living room.

Authorities believe he died of natural causes at age 67. She has not been arrested but is being investigated for financial fraud. Chase admits Check Cashing of Zigler’s benefits after his death. “I’m probably going to jail,” she told the news media. “I told them the truth. I did not lie about that,” she added. Authorities said the investigation will take time. “It’s a strange case. There is no other way to describe it,” said Mark Blumer, chief assistant prosecutor for Jackson County.

Wally Zigler, 48, said his father worked as a mechanic and received SocialSecurity, pension checks and veterans benefits. He said he tried to see his father, but Chase did not leave the house. “That was not right of her to leave him like that,” said Zigler.
