Serena Williams has won her 22nd grand slam title and she beat 4th best WTA player, Angelique Kerber to do so.
The American who was deprived of sealing her 22nd grand slam title in the Australian Open and French Open finals this year, beat Kerber 7-5 6-3 to tie the record with the now retired Steffi Graf in Saturday’s keenly-contested Wimbledon final.
Kerber had earlier denied Williams of a historic title in Melbourne in January, but the world No. 1 came out top at the All England Club despite the windy weather.
Williams is now at par with Graf at 22 majors, the most in the Open Era of professional tennis.
Williams will be looking to grab another victory later today when she teams up with her older sister Venus -who lost to Kerber in the singles semifinals – in the women’s doubles final.
