by Panshak Ibrahim

The abductors of Rev. Phyllis Sortor, an American female missionary, have slashed their initial ransom demand by half, from N60 million to N30 million.

Sortor was kidnapped at about 10a.m. on Monday, February 23, by six masked gunmen at her church premises at Emi Woro.

An aide of the 87-year-old woman, Jacob Ahiaba, disclosed the development to journalists on Wednesday, February 25, at Emi Woro community in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi state.

Ahiaba said Sortor communicated the ransom reduction via a telephone call, saying that the kidnappers had halved their demand to N30 million and urged that efforts be made to get the money, in order for her to be released imminently.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Adeyemi Ogunjemilusi, confirmed the ransom reduction, stating that the kidnappers had already established contact with members of the church and demanded for N30 million ransom.
