Not too long ago, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers accused the Jonathan-led Peoples Democratic Party and the Presidency of bribing leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).

A few months after that episode, the PDP is now accusing the All Progressives Congress of bribing pastors and Ogoni chiefs.

According to the Rivers State chapter of the PDP, a senatorial candidate of APC is offering some pastors and chiefs of Ogoni huge sums of money as inducement to petition the state Election Tribunal that no elections took place in the area.

Chairman of Rivers’ PDP Mr Felix Obuah, released a statement on Thursday, claiming that the senator desperately wants to remain in office against the wish of his people.

The statement said in part: “Both the senator and the APC should also know that the proof of whether or not elections took place in Ogoni goes beyond the sum each of the false witnesses is being paid.

“We warn that such willing tools who have been paid the paltry sum of N200,000 each to bear false witness to discredit elections that were hailed by both local and foreign observers as free, fair and credible should beware, as the offence of perjury still remains a serious crime in the country,” he said.
