EFCC gets green light to prosecute top lawyer, Ricky Tarfa

Rickey Tarfa has lost his bid to stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission from prosecuting him at a Federal High Court in Lagos.

The anti-graft agency had on Monday, February 8 charged the Lagos based lawyer on a two-count charge bordering on obstruction of justice and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Tarfa had been arrested on Friday, February 5 by the EFCC for allegedly shielding two Beninoise suspects – Nazaire Sorou Gnanhoue and Modeste Finagnon in his car with the intent of helping them evade arrest.

The lawyer had approached the court to stop his own prosecution by the EFCC.

His application was however, thrown out by Justice Idris- a decision which gives the EFCC the full right to put him on trial.

The judge further stated that the EFCC must respect Tarfa’s fundamental human rights in the process.
