#Lagos dissolves local councils, but does not give a date for next elections

The Lagos State Government, has directed all local government chairmen and councillors in the state to vacate their offices with immediate effect, following the expiration of their tenure on Tuesday.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Aderemi Ibirogba, directed the elected officers to hand over all property of councils in their care to council managers.

Ibirogba also directed the chairmen to co-ordinate the handover in their respective council areas. He said that elected officials will occupy the offices after the next local government election in the state.

He also said that the election would hold on completion of the ongoing voter registration, ward re-delineation and polling booth re-distribution by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Lagos State Government has 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas.
