Lawsuit! Christian Louboutin sues YSL for ‘copying’ signature red sole

by Yemi Olowu

There is much fuss in the fashion world right now, as the king of red soles, Christian Louboutin sues fellow brand YSL for featuring a pair of  Tribute pumps with red soles in their Spring 2011 collection. Christian Louboutin first painted the sole of a pair of heels with red nail polish back in 1992, and trademarked it in 2008. Consequently, the ladies have come to adore his red soles. As the lawsuit states, Christian Louboutin claims the YSL Tribute pump is misleading his customers, and has asked the court to forbid the sale of the YSL pumps. He also asked for a compensation of one million US dollars. A Louboutin is priced between $400 – $4000.

The court paper reads “Defendants’ use of red footwear outsoles that are virtually identical to plaintiffs’ Red Sole Mark is likely to cause and is causing confusion, mistake and deception among the relevant purchasing public.” YNaija will bring the fashion lovers updates as the story unfolds.
