A 29-year old lawyer, Emeka Mbaka, has been arraigned by the police of Garki Area 1, in Abuja, for assault.

Mbaka was arraigned before a Senior Magistrates’ Court in Wuse Zone II, Abuja.

According to the prosecutor, Anigbo Paul, the case was reported at Lugbe police station by the the complainant, Mary Ohadoma, of Federal Housing Abuja (FHA) estate.

Leadership reports:

The accused is facing a one-count charge of assault. Paul alleged that the accused entered Ohadoma’s room without knocking on the door.

He alleged that when Ohadoma asked him what he wanted, the accused intentionally kicked her bucket containing water and poured the water on the floor.

Paul further told the court that the accused equally held Ohadoma by the neck and slapped her and tore her shirt in the process.

The prosecutor said that during investigation, the accused could not give satisfactory account of what happened between him and the complainant.

According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of the Penal Code.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, however, did not have legal representation in the court.

The Magistrate, Aliyu Shafa, admitted the accused to bail for N120,000 with a surety.

Shafa ordered that the surety must be a barrister and must submit a photocopy of the certificate of his Call to Bar to the court registrar.

He said that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case to Jan. 20, 2014, for further hearing.
