How can you throw such deserving title at Senator Dino Melaye?

Senator of the Year award at the Senate Press Corps Awards 2016 went to Senator Dino Melaye representing Kogi West constituency blah blah blah…

LOL! What? How is that even possible?

Dino Melaye is the senator who charged at a fellow senator, Oluremi Tinubu, hurled abusive and vulgar language at her and also threatened to rape (and impregnate) her. And this was only in July this year so don’t even talk about him being a “changed man”. In her narrative at the time, Senator Tinubu said Melaye boasted he would carry out his criminal threats and face no consequences. Yeah, he had such effrontery.

Few days after, Senator Dino Melaye flew to Lagos and posted photos of himself walking through Bourdillion Road, Ikoyi where the Tinubus reside. Displaying what was apparently the actions of a troublemaker, the senator called on the Tinubus to carry out their alleged threat to attack him if he steps into the city.

“Agba Akin no dey fear“, the words of an elected lawmaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, a supposed high-standing member of the society.

We’re not here to count any man’s sins but Senator Dino Melaye is the ill-informed lawmaker who concocted allegations against telecommunications company, MTN.

He accused MTN of smuggling over $12bn out of the country with the help of 4 commercial banks and the Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, over the course of 10 years.

It’s been two months since the Senate President directed the senate committee on banking, insurance and other financial institutions to investigate the allegations, nothing has been heard. We’re guessing Senator Dino Melaye was unable to provide the committee with concrete evidence.

The Senator of the Year is also the one who splurges on expensive automobiles mindless of the recession and rubs it in our faces because he can.

Lest we forget, he threatened to kill anyone who showed up to testify against the Senate President and his deputy in their forgery trial.

But we know he’s a staunch supporter of the Senate President and will stop at nothing to prove his loyalty to the man, so maybe this explains why he was picked out of the 109 members of the upper chamber, leaving 108 men and women who have shown maybe not thoroughly impressive, but considerably acceptable character over this one senator.
