[The Legislative Blog]: “Is this the Muhammadu Buhari, the no-nonsense general we know?” | Hon Jibrin questions PMB’s inaction

Jibrin

President Muhammadu Buhari is not the man we used to know.

Political pundits across the country have raised concerns surrounding the president’s slothfulness and now, suspended lawmaker Hon Abdulmumin Jibrin has joined the lingering conversation with biting remarks.

Although this is not the first time he’s alluded to the president’s inaction, this time he hits the nail right on the head and raises questions as to the possible causes for the state of affairs in the presidency.

Attributing the situation to the possibilities of the presence of a cabal that may be trying to hijack power from the President, we should be reminded that this conjecture is not new. Months ago, First Lady Aisha Buhari made similar claims in a BBC interview that sparked a multi-faceted controversy.

He also questioned the president’s complete awareness of the happenings in his government, especially that which involves the Senate. Although the president recently made an attempt to wade into the rift between the executive and legislative arms of government by setting up a committee chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Hon Jibrin may not be convinced of President Buhari’s abilities to deal with the persistent issues facing his administration.

Without necessarily taking a stand with Hon Jibrin, one has to agree President Buhari’s laidback approach reeks through his government and it’s the reason individuals like the Secretary General of the Federation, Babachir Lawal still walk free in the corridors of power accessorized with braggadocio despite a pending embezzlement case.
