President Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday described the heavy weight his government has to bear due to the huge number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the country.
Buhari who had a meeting with the President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Mr. Peter Maurer, at the Aso Rock Presidential villa said about 60 per cent of the children in the IDP camps did not know their parents.
He appreciated the ICRC for its role in last Thursday’s release of the 21 abducted Chibok schoolgirls.
He noted that there were over two million IDPs “made up of over 60 per cent women and children. About 60 per cent of the children don’t know their parents, or where they come from. It is weighing heavily on government.”
