Make it rain: N21 billion made at Jonathan’s re-election fundraiser

On Saturday, December 20, at the re-election fundraiser for President Goodluck Jonathan, over N21 billion was raised.

Businessmen, multinational organisations, and governors, make up the list of donors at the Peoples Democratic Party Fund Raising Dinner, which was held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Tunde Ayeni, kick-started things with a donation of N2bn on behalf of himself and some unnamed friends.

The forum of governors under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, donated N1.05billion. Bauchi State Governor, Isa Yuguda, speaking on behalf of the PDP governors, said 21 governors donated N50m each.

Donations also came from different sectors: Oil and Gas,N5bn; Transport and Aviation, N1bn; Food and Agriculture, N500m; Power, N500m; Construction, N310m; Road Construction, N250m; those in Real Estate and Building donated N4bn; National Automative Association, N450m; and Shelter Development Limited, N250m.

Chairman of the fundraiser committee, Prof. Jerry Gana who donated N5billion on behalf of himself and his friends, stated that the 2015 general elections would be tightly contested, while imploring the party not to underestimate the opposition.

President Goodluck Jonathan thanked the donors and pledged that the fund raised would be well used.
