A Georgia man hid voice recorders in an attempt to catch his now ex-wife cheating on him. Instead, he busted himself molesting his stepdaughter.

Andre Laurens Crane, 44, was sentenced Thursday to life in prison plus 10 years for sexually abusing the girl when she was 11 through 14, authorities said.

Crane set up the audio recorders throughout their Loganville house and in her car, according to Courtney Spicer, assistant district attorney for Gwinnett County.

“The evidence at trial showed that they had been going through a rocky time and he had accused her of being unfaithful,” Spicer told the Daily News. “About six months after their divorce was finalized and he moved out, she stumbled upon it (the recording) while cleaning.”

After the Sept 27, 2012, discovery, law enforcement started to conduct an investigation that included several interviews. The next month, detectives went to Crane’s new home in Flowery Branch, about 10 miles north of Loganville, to question him and take him into custody.

But when detectives arrived, he barricaded himself inside the home and attempted suicide.

“He slit his throat with a large knife,” Spicer said. “He was immediately taken to the nearest hospital where he was treated, released and then arrested.”

Crane remained in jail without bond until the trial.

The jury reportedly heard Crane engaging in sexual acts with the girl, now 15, who also testified against her abuser at the Gwinnett County courthouse in Lawrenceville.

Crane was convicted of six offenses: aggravated sexual battery, criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation and four counts child molestation.

The victim indicated that the sexual abuse continued at his Flowery Branch home following her mother’s divorce from Crane, so charges are pending in Hall County as well.
