A 56-year old blind man, Shaibu Ibrahim, on Monday, asked a grade 1 court in Aso Pada, Nasarawa State to order his 38-year old wife, Lami, to pay him N300,000 compensation before granting her a divorce.

Ibrahim told the court at the beginning of the hearing, that he had been giving her some money to keep for him since their marriage began, about 15 months ago.

He said he would only agree to a divorce if she can either marry another wife for him or give him the sum of N300,000.

Leadership reports:

“The money I gave her was to help us buy a house as we earlier agreed. Although I don’t really know how much I eventually gave to her, I think it should be up to N300,000. If she cannot give me the money, she should marry another woman for me,” he told the court.

However, Lami, denied her husband’s allegations, saying he had never given her money to keep for him.

After listening to the two parties, the presiding officer, Malam Danladi Musa, directed them to go back home and resolve the issue of compensation and adjourned the case to December 11.

Musa had on November 14, when the case first came up adjourned to December 2 for possible reconciliation after Lami urged the court to dissolve the marriage for alleged excessive sexual urge.

She also told the court then that she was no longer interested in the 15-month-old marriage.

“I urge the court to dissolve this marriage because I can’t stand his excessive sexual urge. He likes sex too much. I can’t bear it. Most times, he will have sex with me from midnight till early hours of the morning and even when I am crying, he will not stop,’’ she alleged.

She also told the court that her husband was uncontrollable anytime he wanted sex and would even want her to have sex not minding the presence of their children.
