Meet the youngest ever Best Actress Oscar nominee: 9-year-old is a charm and already winning (WATCH)

In the film Beasts Of The Southern Wild, Quvenzhané Wallis’s character Hushpuppy lives on a forgotten island without modern technology.

But it was a different story on Thursday night when the young actress accepted the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Young Actor/ Actress, and read her speech from her smartphone.

With a cute smile on her face, Quvenzhané (pronounced Kwe-ven-zhah-nay) charmed the audience at the Santa Monica event and the millions watching at home.

The nine-year old received her award from Superman star Henry Cavill and Vampire Diaries actress Nina Dobrev, but unlike most winners at these type of events, kept her speech short and sweet.

‘First I would like to thank God for all my blessings,’ said Quvenzhané. ‘I would also like to thank the film critic’s for this award.’

‘Thanks to Mr. Benh Zeitlin and the Court 13 family for thinking I could make a good Hushpuppy.

‘Lastly, to my family, friends and fans—good night!’, she finished to heartfelt applause.

The film’s director, Benh Zeitlin, picked Quvenzhané out of 4,000 hopefuls for the role in the fantasy film, which sees a young girl dip into her imagination as a way to cope and survive in a community separated from the Louisiana mainland after Hurricane Katrina.

At the time, the young actress was just six-years old, and now at aged nine, she is the youngest person in history to be nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award.

A heart-wrenching performance by both Quvenzhané – and her on-screen father Dwight Henry – has led to the Louisiana-born actress being sought after by many filmmakers.

And already she is set to star in a New York-set historical drama with Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Paul Giamatti and Benedict Cumberbatch called Twelve Years a Slave.

However, after meeting legendary director Steven Spielberg at the awards she may very well star in one of his next films.

And that could prove a fantastic move for the young actress considering his track record of launching the careers of many new actors.

Drew Barrymore stole every scene in Spielberg’s ET, whilst the Fanning sisters have both seen their careers sky rocket after working with the Oscar-winning filmmaker – Dakota in 2005’s War Of The Worlds and Elle in 2011’s Super 8.

Quvenzhané will certainly have her pick of roles, not to mention outfits to wear to all the awards ceremonies she is nominated for.

But on Thursday night, the actress looked a far-cry from her Beasts character in a pretty lilac party dress and black patent leather ballet pumps.

Carrying a doggy bag on her arm, it’s clear to see the young lady isn’t ready to grow up just yet.

A good thing when considering the number of child stars who have ‘gone wild’ after being exposed to so much so young.

So even though she’s now an award-winning actress, at heart, Quvenzhané is still a kid and loves a bit of puppy love.
