Nigerian army opens rehab centres for ‘repentant’ Boko Haram insurgents

The Nigerian military authorities, on Saturday, announced the opening of a rehabilitation camp for repentant members of Boko Haram terrorist sect.

This was disclosed by the Acting Director, Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar, during a telephone chat with Punch Newspapers.

The military spokesperson, however, failed to disclose the location of the camp for security reasons, saying that the defense headquarters expects more terrorists to surrender.

He noted that the inmates will be treated in line with global best practices and that they will be given vocational training and rehabilitated for easy reintegration into society.

“Definitely, the camp is there, and we are working round the clock to fix everything, and all what is required will be there and then we will move.”

“The camp is open, whether in Borno, in Mubi, in Jigawa; the camp is the camp and we have opened it, and people will come to know where the camp is.”

“We’d not want to disclose where the camp is for security reasons. We hope that more would surrender when the set of those who surrendered are being treated in line with global best practices, that would attract them.”
