Buhari’s ministerial nominees reportedly lobbying Senators

Some of the ministerial nominees, whose names were sent to the Senate, have reportedly started lobbying senators ahead of their screening, which is expected to begin next week.

President Muhammadu Buhari had sent the list of his ministerial nominees to the Senate last week Wednesday.

Although the list was not read by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, some of the names managed to leak to the media.

And as expected, the nominees have started reaching out the Senate President and other senators to seek their support, so as to get favourable screening.

Owing to the perceived disaffection between the Senate and the Presidency, some of the nominees are uncertain of what to expect when screening commences this week.

In spite of denying involvement in the ongoing trial of Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, many lawmakers find it hard to believe that the Presidency is not pulling strings behind the scenes.

Due to this, many of the senators are said to be determined to make it difficult for the ministerial nominees to scale through the screening process.

To avoid this scenario, it is believed that the Senate leadership is making moves to settle its rift with the Presidency before the clearance of ministerial nominees commences.
