Ministry of Works raises budget for ‘roads’ to N244bn in reviewed Appropriation Bill

The discovery of not a few changes in the reviewed 2016 Appropriation Bill has surfaced in the past few days.

After the drama of the budget going missing, the resurfacing of the document and the revelation that two versions were submitted, it’s become obvious that the real intention of the perpetrators was to make alterations.

One of such alterations can be found in the budget for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, which has been slashed from N66bn to N50bn.

In what represents a 24 per cent drop, N16bn was slashed from the budget of the Ministry of Works, headed by Babatunde Fashola.

A total of N244.123bn was allocated for the construction and provision of road facilities across the country in the reviewed Appropriation Bill for 2016.

The total amount of funds to be spent on roads was also adjusted in the reviewed document.

In the initial budget, N198.39bn was appropriated for road construction, rehabilitation and repairs but it was jacked up by N45.73bn in the reviewed budget.
