Mourinho cannot complain if the FA bans Branislav Ivanovic – here’s why

by Mark Bassey

On Wednesday night, Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho threatened to walk out of his press conference, after his side narrowly defeated Everton 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese was obviously not pleased with questions about an incident in the match, that involved one of his favourite players, Branislav Ivanovic.

After Gareth Barry tripped Willian and was then sent off by referee Jonathan Moss, Ivanovic appeared to headbutt James McCarthy. If Moss had spotted the incident, Chelsea might as well have been down to 10 men too.

When Mourinho was asked after the game, he replied: “I’m concerned with my reaction because one more question I leave. The next question for that story I have to go.”

The former Real Madrid is still livid with the FA, for banning his key striker Diego Costa, who was suspended retrospectively for a stamp on Liverpool’s Emre Can.

Speaking to BT Sport, Mourinho quipped: “Did Branislav Ivanovic go in with his head? Don’t make me laugh. Don’t make me laugh.”

There will be no humour for him, when the FA’s disciplinary committee takes a look at the incident again, which more pictures even suggesting Ivanovic sunk his teeth into McCarthy’s shoulder. And Mourinho really should not bother throwing his toys out when it happens.
