Mourinho says Torres can leave Chelsea if he wants

by Mark Bassey

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, has said he will not stand in Fernando Torres’ way, if he chooses to leave the club before the transfer window closes on Monday.

The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan and according to many reports, both sides are close to finalizing a deal.

Mourinho however insistes that Torres has not asked to leave, but says it is a real possibility that he departs Stamford Bridge.

“If he wants to leave – and I have not heard that from him – any possibility would be analysed,” he told reporters.

“If he wants to leave, I believe it’s because he wants to try a new life, possibly a new league.

“He didn’t speak with me. We need three strikers to face the season. He is one of them. I like him.”

With Diego Costa also a doubt for this weekend’s match against Everton, Mourinho also said he will not go back into the market for a new player.

“At the moment, we are doing nothing, because our belief is that the market is closed for us,” he added.
