MTN Lagos Fashion & Design Week 2011 – The Sunny Rose review

by Kayito Nwokedi

The Sunny Rose collection was a surreal collection full of charm, unfussiness, and cool. It had elements a proper spring collection should have, balanced very nicely, with romance and prettiness as its undercurrent. How else do you explain the ruffles billowing down fronts and sleeves of blouses, sleeveless champagne colored dresses with beaded satin bustiers, strapless printed dresses with belted drapes of ombre chiffon, or the fringe appliques at necklines and empire waists?

When romance and prettiness juxtapose in this cool way, feminine is what is birthed. The tailoring could also be applauded: the printed suit with cropped pants and a long jacket with pulled up sleeves, didn’t go unnoticed. Ditto the draped one-shoulder top that exposed the left side of the torso, paired with printed full pants. It was a cool new way for a woman to dress for after dark, and new is what is needed in fashion right now.
