2 major witnesses to testify in Nyako’s case die mysteriously – EFCC

2 key witnesses in the N29 billion fraud case against Murtala Nyako and his son Abdulaziz, have died mysteriously, says the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs revealed this to a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday July 10.

Jacobs urged the court against granting bail to the former governor of Adamawa, stating that the mysterious deaths of the 2 men have put fear in other witnesses who have now refused to cooperate.

The counsel said: “Two of our crucial witnesses, Ma’aji Mohammed Iro and Abdulmalik Dalhatu have died in mysterious circumstances and this has instilled fear in other prospective witnesses in the case. We believe that there is possibility for them to interfere with the case.”

Jacobs added: “They are not automatically entitled to bail even with their status. Moreover, we believe that they may abscond based on their past antecedent as fugitives and thus not come for trial based on the very weighty evidence brought against them.”

Justice Chukwu, would however, admit the accused persons to bail in the sum of N350 million ( Three Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) each, with two sureties who must be resident in Abuja, one of whom must be a serving director in a federal government establishment.
