“We must interrogate your succession planning” | What Chude Jideonwo said to Obasanjo last week (WATCH)

Over the weekend, as part of festivities for the 80th birthday of former president Olusegun Obasanjo, a presidential library was launched in his name.

The Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, which was incorporated in November 2002 as a not-for-profit organisation, was officially commissioned in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Saturday. Part of the activities for the launch was a symposium with the theme. “Purpose and Utilitarian Values of Presidential Libraries.”

Chude Jideonwo, co-founder and managing partner of RED, spoke at the symposium, where he brought to the fore the necessity of certain debates regarding Obasanjo.

“Obasanjo is a great man,” he said. “But of course, like all great leaders, he is a man of complexity, and even though he created the foundations of modern democracy in 1979 and our new democracy in 2000 and 2008, there are things we need to have debates about.”

“We want to have debates about the faultlines of his successional policy,” he continued. “We want to have debates about what happened with constitutional reforms.”
