Hello, NLC! 2 labour unions are in support of the new price of fuel

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are threatening fire over the new fuel price, and warning about a shutdown of the economy next week. Probably, they should check with some of their colleagues first.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, (PENGASSAN) and the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), on Friday, declared their support for the new price of fuel.

The unions made this known after a joint meeting of their National Executive Council (NEC) in Calabar, Cross Rivers state.

Both oil workers union are important affiliates of the NLC and TUC.

A joint communiqué signed by PENGASSAN President, Francis Johnson, and his NUPENG counterpart, Igwe Achese, reads in part that: “The NEC-in-session had an extensive discussion on the recent price modulation and is of the view that price deregulation has its benefits in the immediate and near future.

“Government should engage with the stakeholders to work out a clear direction on how to reinvest the gains of the policy into the economy to cushion the effect of the price on the people.”
