Two brothers, Henry and Ekene Ezeani were nabbed recently for manufacturing and selling the fake alcoholic beverage, “The Prince Alomo-Bitters.”

During a raid, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Lagos confiscated N25m worth of this product.

NAFDAC’s Lagos State representative, Anslem Okonkwor, said in a statement that the suspects who had been under the agency’s surveillance were part of a group specialised in producing fake brands of beverages.

The Director of Enforcement, NAFDAC, Garba Macdonald, said that his officers had monitored the suspects since the fake products was first reported in markets across Lagos.

“A team of NAFDAC officials led by Mr. Joseph Asikpo apprehended them while they were producing the fake products in their residence at 140, Ojora Royal Compound, Coker Village in Lagos,” Okonkwor said.

According to reports, this was not Ekene’s first time being arrested. Last year, he had been arrested in 2012 for a similar offence but was released on bail.

“He said he learnt wine production from a company in South Africa, where he had worked before he was deported in 2011.

“His excuse was that he needed money to establish a proper wine producing company of his own,” Okonkwor said,
