Grammy-award winning R&B singer, Natalie Cole, has died at the age of 65.
The publicist of the singer, Maureen O’Connor revealed that she passed away on Thursday night, the eve of January 1 2016.
New York Daily reports that the cause of Natalie Cole’s death was congestive heart failure.
The publicist told Associated Press news agency that the singer died in a hospital in Los Angeles.
Before her death, Cole had cancelled several performances, including one on New Year’s Eve.
A statement from her son Robert Yancy, and sisters, Timolin and Casey Cole, said: “Natalie fought a fierce, courageous battle, dying how she lived… with dignity, strength and honour. Our beloved mother and sister will be greatly missed and remain unforgettable in our hearts forever.”
Similarly, Rev Jesse Jackson tweeted his condolences over the death of the singer: “#NatalieCole, sister beloved & of substance and sound. May her soul rest in peace. #Inseparable.”
Natalie Cole is the daughter of late jazz legend, Nat King-Cole.
