N6m worth of Indian hemp seized by NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Friday said it has confiscated a vehicle loaded with 35 sacks of Indian hemp weighing 1,244.4 kg in Kogi.

This was revealed by the NDLEA commander in the state, Alhaji Idris Bello who said the illegal substance worth N6 million was intercepted near Kabba Junction on Lokoja-Abuja highway and a suspect, Stanley Duru has been arrested in connection to it.

He said the suspect claimed to be a passenger in the vehicle which was a Peugeot J5 bus, with registration number XDA 438 KTN.

Bello said the drug was stacked in sacks with cartons of assorted biscuits, cheese balls, plastic take-away plates and bags of toilet tissues.

He also said the driver’s confidence had betrayed him after sighting men of the agency, fleeing and leaving the suspect behind.
