NECO releases results, candidates improve in Maths & English

There has been a significant improvement in the performance of candidates in the just released June/July National Examinations Council (NECO) 2014 results.

According to the results released today 72.58 per cent of candidates got a credit pass in English Language while 69.49 per cent of the candidates recorded a credit pass.

While announcing the results in Minna, Niger State, the Chief Executive Officer of the examination body, Prof. Nwachukwu Okpala said the candidates’ performance showed a marked improvement from the exams conducted in 2012 and 2013.

He pointed out that 989, 622  registered for the examinations, out of whom, 978,886 actually sat for the papers.

An analysis of other core subjects indicated that 783,975 sat for Biology with 531,784 pass at credit level, representing 67.83 per cent; Chemistry had 418,785 candidates with 305,120 pass at credit level, representing  72.86 per cent; 418,440 sat for Physics with 290,310 pass at credit level, representing 69.38 per cent.

Also, 19,067 sat for Further Mathematics while 12,827 passed at credit level, representing 67.27 per cent; Agricultural Science had 500,897 candidates with 347,834 pass at credit level, representing 69.44 per cent .

Okpala stated that an analysis of the examination showed that only 0.44 per cent  of those who sat for the examination were involved in malpractices.
