Named and shamed: 4 soldiers dismissed for raping and assaulting women in Abuja

by Rachel Ogbu

Four soldiers in the Nigerian Army were dismissed on Tuesday for alleged cases of rape, extortion and assault.

Corporal Nsa Eyedep and Privates Emezien Uzoma, Ugwu Mathew and Efosa Ikhuomoregbe were attached to the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army.

Commander Guards Brigade, Brig-Gen Emmanuel Atewe, said investigations showed that the soldiers abducted and raped some women at the Wuse Zone 2, Abuja in December 2012.

Atewe, represented by Major Peter Elayo said the claims were broadcast on January 14, 2013 after which the brigade convened a Board of Inquiry to investigate the circumstance surrounding the allegation with a view to taking action and prevent a future re-occurrence.

“The board whose report has already been submitted was able to establish that the four soldiers during the period abandoned their duty post to an unauthorised destination.

“The Military Police Investigation led to their trial and they were found guilty of misdemeanour and abandoning their location where they were officially deployed thereby compromising security and the soldiers have subsequently been dismissed from service in line with service discipline,” he said.

  1. God bless d Nigeria Army

  2. I commend the army thus far. These are not the only ones. If those that assaulted me were brought to book, since september/october, these women would not have been raped. All those who have been participating in abduction of women need to account for their deeds! Who were those deployed to violate women and other innocent civilians on 29th september 2012? There were soldiers and man o'war men! The Nigerian army has promised me today all those involved in assaulting me would be brought to book as well, and I beliieve them. For all I know, the apprehended people could be part of those that assaulted me. If they are, betweeen september 29th and mid december, you can imagine how many victims there have been. All those who have potrayed the Nigerian army as a terror to womanhood must be brought to book.

  3. What the happenies for that woman.

  4. It is no more business as usual. No more kill and go but kill and stay to bear the consequence.
