NGO urges the new National Assembly to protect the girl child

With the vulnerability of the girl child, the new administration in the National Assembly has been urged to have the child protected.

A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Girl-Child Rights Awareness Initiative in Africa, has urged the new 8th National Assembly to prioritize girl-child protection.

The Executive Director of the NGO, Ajibola Temitope, said in an interview, “The girl-child in Nigeria has become vulnerable and highly prone to danger and all forms of molestation and harassment.

Temitope recalled the case of the abducted Chibok girls and called for legislation to protect vulnerable girls.

“As we welcome the newly inaugurated lawmakers, we consider it important to remind them of the urgent need to protect the girl-child and motherhood in general.

“We want the 8th National Assembly to quickly pass a law that will insulate the girl-child against any form of humiliation, harassment and intimidation.

“We are saddened by the level of humiliation and inhuman treatment the girl-child has been subjected to in the last couple of years,’’ she said.
