The Nigerian Army has started investigations into how 83 soldiers disappeared after an attack by terrorist group, Boko Haram last Monday, Premium Times reports.

Soldiers attached to the 145 Task Force Battalion had come under attack while manning a station in Gashigar, Borno State, near the border with the Republic of Niger.

The attack had left some soldiers dead and many others missing, including the commanding officer.

The Army has reportedly an inquiry panel drawn from the Nigerian Army 8th Division Provost Group in Monguno.

The news platform reports that a certain Captain Long John has been asked to start acting as the commanding officer because he’s the next most senior officer.

It was also gathered that family members are unable to ascertain if their loved ones are not missing because telecoms network is unavailable in the area.

Army spokesperson, Col. Sani Usman said rescue operations are underway but declined to disclose how many soldiers are missing.
