by Kolapo Olapoju

According to a BBC report, about 480 Nigerian soldiers have fled into Cameroon after the fire fight that took place between them and Boko Haram militants on the morning of Monday, 25 August.

Cameroon Army’s spokesman, Lt Col Didier Badjek, confirmed the incident saying that the soldiers had been disarmed and were now taking refuge in schools.

Meanwhile, clashes are reportedly ongoing in Gamboru Ngala, Borno state.

On Sunday, 24 August, Boko Haram’s leader, Ibrahim Shekau released a video where he declared the town of Gwoza, Borno, as an Islamic caliphate, and the defence spokesman, Chris Olukolade, swiftly responded saying Boko Haram’s claim of Gwoza, was an ‘empty deluded claim’.
