Racism! Nigerian students in India forced to move out of their apartments

by Emma Chidiogo

Nigeria students who are resident in India, have been asked by local real estate agents and landlords to vacate their apartments within 15 days.

The twenty-five students residing at Aarey Colony complex, Mumbai, have not been given any specific reason concerning their eviction, but a report by the Times of India said that police had directed the agents to notify them based on the allegation that many of them were involved in online crimes or drug-peddling.

One of the students was quoted to have expressed disappointment in the Indian government.

“If the country does not want to allow Nigerians, they should make it clear. Why should students be punished for what one or two people have done? The regular embarrassment is not fair.”

The police have however denied sending out any eviction notices to real estate agents and landlords.

“We do not have the power to evict people from their houses,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kishore Jadhav in the report.

  1. Sending our Nigerian students for an unjust reason will only cause a diplomatic roare India should think before they act they should not forget that a great chunk of Indians are living on Nigerian soil having various business interets. If the Indian govt has a problem with some Nigerians they should investigate catch the culprits and simply deport them and not dragging innocent Nigerians in thier schems of injustice!
