Nkiru Sylvanus, the special assistant to the Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, who was abducted by kidnappers in Owerri, reportedly had N8m paid to secure her release.
This bit of information was disclosed by the state commissioner of police, Adisa Bolanta, who said the amount was paid by her family despite repeated warning by the police against such an action.
According to him, “They defied our warnings and continued negotiations with the kidnappers. They went behind us and paid N8 million to them. We have made some arrests in connection with the case and very soon they will all be apprehended.”
The commissioner added that the police have recovered and returned N7m paid by the family.
He reportedly assured the public that the kidnappers will be brought to book.
“Let me assure the good people of Imo that we will not rest until all forms of criminality has been eradicated from this state,” he concluded.
