No Ebola in our country: Ghana is feeling proud of itself

by Azubuike Azikiwe

The Ghanaian government has announced that the test results from samples of suspected Ebola cases from the Ashanti, Eastern and Upper East Regions have all returned negative.

After two persons were quarantined for exhibiting symptoms of the virus, and the death of a man at Bawku, several Ghanaians became apprehensive, but as it turns out none of the cases were consistent with Ebola virus disease.

Ghanaian’s minister of health, Dr. Kweku Agyemang Mensah said in Accra on Monday, 11 August, that there was no cause for alarm by the citizens.

Samples were taken from all the reported cases and tested at the Noguchi Memorial Centre, and the results showed no traces of the virus in any of the patients.

There is no known cure for the virus which according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) has infected 1,848 people and killed 1,013  since its outbreak at the start of the year.
